Welcome to Out of Time

If this is the first time you've come across this blog, I suggest you read my first post for a proper introduction.

I also recommend reading this blog in chronological order, although it is not absolutely necessary to enjoy it.

A Timely Introduction

Welcome. I am a normal human being just like you. Except that I am from what you would consider the future. You can call me Augury432.

No, I'm not crazy, though I do realize the seeming absurdity of my claim. Your skepticism is welcome, and unquestioning belief is not a necessity to continue reading. I've decided to begin this blog in order to tell my story and share my unique point of view, and I hope that you will join me on my adventure, irrespective of your understandable doubt.

I arrived here three years ago. Since then I've been trying to stay out of history's way, keeping a low-profile at all possible times, and trying my best to minimize my impact on this world. I've spent most of my energy trying my best not to exist. But I realize now that no matter what I do, my mere presence here alters this world. Besides, I have never been one to stand idly by while the world moves along (no matter what century I'm in). Like it or not, I have become part of this timeline, and I cannot help but affect it in some way or another.

You see, if the changes I make will end up causing small, insignificant changes in the timeline, or unpredictably large, history-books-worth of changes is as unknown to me as the future is to you. And so, I've decided that it's time to actively make a difference. If I am to the disturb the timeline anyhow, then I might as well focus the majority of that into doing some good here and now. And the best way I know how to do that right now is by writing.

I am a writer and I also teach/taught/will teach at a university in my time. The two really come hand in hand for me. Writing can be a way of teaching. And though I am far from the academic environment, and should probably be more concerned with survival than with writing or teaching, I hope you can still learn something from me, from my experiences, my perspectives and my candid thoughts and feelings expressed within this blog. Do bear with me, though, as though I am a writer, 21st century American English is not my native tongue.

And I must do this while avoiding the authorities, for as you might suspect, an accidental time traveler would be considered an "illegal alien" under most countries' laws at this time. It's not just that I'm not suppose to be here, it's that I'm not even supposed to
exist yet! Not to mention that a powerful organization (such as a government) might just find my childhood history lessons a little too valuable for my tastes. Therefore, I hope you understand why I must keep myself anonymous for the time being.

As you have probably surmised by now, my presence here was not planned. Indeed, it was quite inadvertent. Due to an accident, I was flung more than four centuries before my time. And I may not be alone. There may be others, and if so, I need to find them. I also hope that if there are indeed others from my time here that they will turn to the Internet as I have to search for the other accidental time travelers. Hopefully they would find this blog and contact me.

You would understand me if I say that time has not been good to me, but instead I will take what I have and make the best of it. I don't know how long I will keep this blog (or keep it from being shut down), but I plan to update it every week with another story or thought, with as much regularity as possible.

I want this to be an interactive activity, so I welcome your thoughts, comments and questions. I will answer all serious questions to the best of my ability, but remember that I am not a historian nor a scientist. Also, though I have decided to actively involve myself with this timeline, I hope to be as responsible about it as possible, and so I will not answer questions or give information which I think have a high risk of being harmful to the timeline. And sometimes I may not be able to answer your questions directly. But I will try my best, and I hope you will get something valuable from it.

Next time I hope to explain in a little more detail how I came to be here.

Thank you for reading, noble reader, and I hope you will continue to read in the following weeks!
