This week we conclude the article where you get to know a little bit about some of the people in my life from my own time. Check my previous post for part one.
Aaron
Aaron is a sociologist. He teaches sociology and history at the university and is a very distinguished diplomat. He has represented Earth numerous times in various situations and has helped negotiate many important treaties and contracts which have ensured continuing peace and prosperity for Earth and other worlds of the union. He is often called for when two parties request a mediator, as he has a well-earned reputation for being impartial and fair to all parties, regardless of their loyalties and interests.
Aaron is also an excellent professor, and has full classes every semester. He does not make his prestige as an excuse to take his teaching duties lightly, which I greatly respect him for. He is a serious, private man, but is not beyond having a few good laughs when we get together, often for chess (a similar form to that of this epoch's), which he is very good at. He usually wins but our conversations and the practice make it worthwhile.
Aaron had a lovely, incredibly supportive wife who traveled with him no matter what corner of the galaxy he was going to, no matter how long he was staying or under what conditions. She made friends with all the delegates on the floor and brought a smile to a room that helped set the tone for the upcoming negotiations. They were great together and everyone knew it.
She was known particularly for her love of nature, specifically plant life. Unfortunately, one day she was strolling through a wooded area on a distant world while her husband hammered out an agreement with the other delegates on that world and she was stung by an insect which carried a virus fatal to humans. She was given medical attention almost immediately, but she could not be saved. The news shocked the known galaxy and silently devastated Aaron.
But I think Aaron's faith in humanity and the very examples of mutual cooperation between worlds he has made possible keep him strong. He is a good man who has done much for innumerable people.
Marie
Marie was born and raised on Mars. There she pursued an engineering degree and quickly demonstrated her natural talent for engineering, backed up with much passion and dedication. She is a top-notch engineer and soon after graduating became the lead engineer for many important projects. She specializes in teleportation systems and starship propulsion, one of the few in her field to master and actively work on both.
She enjoyed a well-earned success on Mars and elsewhere until becoming victim to a political scandal in which she acted morally but suffered for it. Like most of humanity's off-Earth settlements, Mars is a young settlement and is not as politically or socially stable as Earth. As unfortunate timing would have it, she also broke up with her long time sweetheart during that time.
The individuals who caused all the trouble in the first placed were dealt with properly afterwards, but I think Marie felt the damage to her reputation was done and she left her Martian habitat for Earth.
The university needed a lead engineer with experience in both her specialties and she applied. Of course, they took her, and this is when I met this talented woman. I've known her for about four years, since she started working at the university. Not only is she an incredibly skilled engineer, but she has a vivid imagination and is a truly warm and friendly person, in spite of her troubles.
Me
You already know a few things about me, and since I am writing this blog, you'll no doubt come to know much more. I can tell you I was happy in my time. I'm single, but I suppose it's for the best considering the situation I find myself in. These past three years have been difficult, but as I writer I find relief through expression, and as a teacher, I find purpose in teaching, whether through this blog or with te random student in town.
Thanks for reading! More (hopefully) interesting stuff next week.
Welcome to Out of Time
If this is the first time you've come across this blog, I suggest you read my first post for a proper introduction.
I also recommend reading this blog in chronological order, although it is not absolutely necessary to enjoy it.
